Our Why

Professionals across the criminal justice system—whether in policing, corrections, courts, probation, parole, or legal services—work in environments defined by chronic stress, trauma exposure, and intense responsibility. Over time, these conditions often lead to emotional exhaustion, burnout, and disconnection. Many adopt coping mechanisms such as emotional suppression or hardened personas—not by choice, but in response to a system that discourages vulnerability and under invests in meaningful support.

Restorative Justice in Leadership and Engagement (RJNLE) was founded by Casey and Jessica to confront this systemic harm and catalyze a cultural shift within the criminal justice system. They saw the urgent need for a new approach—one that centers healing, trust, and shared accountability as essential components of public safety.

RJNLE partners with agencies across the justice system to build emotionally healthy workplace cultures, strengthen leadership, embed restorative practices, and drive innovative system improvements. Their work is grounded in the belief that when agencies and institutions prioritize empathy and relational trust, they not only support the well-being of their workforce but also enhance the integrity and effectiveness of public safety.

At its core, RJNLE exists to reimagine how justice is practiced—not only in communities, but within the very institutions that uphold the system. Because lasting transformation begins from within.
